Ecology Link take pride in making time for local voluntary work. Examples of ongoing and recent projects include:
Swavesey Community Orchard
Assisted in obtaining permission to create a new pond under GCN District Level Licensing (DLL) scheme, supporting FWAG East in collaboration with Natural England funding. This included providing a baseline habitat survey and report including species list, designing and overseeing excavation of the pond and creation of refuge features and associated protective fencing and planting.
Swavesey Parish Council
Continued annual advice and assistance with the maintenance and enhancement works to three of the village ponds.
The Sustainability Hub
Providing advice on optimal locations and species options for re-wilding and increasing biodiversity within the village locality. This included a focus on provision for pollinators and creating low maintenance and drought tolerant planting schemes. In combination with Sheddit, we also assisted with the making of bughouse kits from salvaged pallets for their free sustainability event.
Delapre Abbey and Lake
Free provision of an ecological clerk of works for a day to supervise desilting, general habitat enhancement and maintenance works at a couple of the smaller fishery pools. Delapre Lake is one of the oldest gravel pits along the Nene Valley, contained within the grounds of Delapre Abbey.

Swavesey Primary School
Nature and outdoor education area maintenance and extension. Provision of recommendations to both enhance the existing, overgrown nature area and pond, along with extending the area to create a more useable everyday outdoor classroom space. This is with direct involvement with all Key Stage groups, being rolled out over two years. The pupils and their Eco-Committee are actively engaging with the process from initial designs and ideals, to obtaining quotes for certain tasks, such as fencing and tree surgery.
